I believe the goal of schooling is to help students construct their knowledge about the society and world around them. I believe that all teachers, as well as school administrators, parents and the greater society lie at the center of the instructional process. I believe that the more connected and involved this parties are with one another the greater the learning outcome can and will be. I believe the role of the learner is to engage themselves in the learning process with openness, excitement and dedication. Learners should aspire to be the best they can be and to change and advance the very things they are learning about in the world around them. Learners should not be accepting of the current ways but challenge and expand their knowledge and beliefs. Students should be non-judgmental, accepting and they move through a multitude of knowledge and attempt to understand how they fit and can be good citizens in the world. I believe it is the role of the teacher to make learning something that is for everyone -- a thing that all people can and want to engage in, as well as to make it exciting, informative, unique, and fun. I believe that the curriculum should be ever changing as our world is ever changing, and that curriculum should not be decided by one teacher but by many educators, schools and the greater society in order for everyone’s needs to be met and the needs of our changing society to be met. I believe this goal can best be met through a curriculum that is flexible. I believe that content should be learned and taught using methods that cater to each individual learner and their needs. Finally I believe that the relationship between school and society is a valuable one and that society can define schooling just as well as schooling can define society.
